Rook and Orla sit in the surf facing each other, letting the waves crash into them sideways.
Rook says, "I like this, moving through the water like this, I just wish it wasn’t so cold."
"There are warmer waters…"
"I know. You said you don’t winter here. Our ship usually goes South in the winter, too. It… would be nice, if it turned out we go to some of the same places?"
Close up of Orla's face, wistful, "It would be nice."
Rook stretches out a hand in the water as the waves draw away. "I wish there was some way to reach you, once I’m on the ship. Some way to send you a message."
"Sound carries a longer way, under the waves."
Teasing, Rook asks, "Are you saying I should just stick my head under the water and shout?"
"No, but some sounds carry further than others.."
